How to reach

Dharamghar can be reached by road only after leaving the last railway station located at Kathgodam. The road distance is approximately 175 km from Kathgodam which is connected to major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Dehradun through rail services run by Indian Railways.

From there one can come through private taxies running on share basis or public transport. But to opt for this option some basic understanding of road network of this region is desirable as you may be required to de-board and board different bus/taxi at various points depending on where the vehicle headed to.

Pick up from Railway/Bus station at Haldwani/Kathgodam can be coordinated on request as there are some local taxies running from Kathgodam/ Haldwani to Dharamghar on regular basis.

For the uninitiated Kathgodam and Haldwani are twin cities located in Terai region and serve as gateway to Kumaon Hills.

There is a bus service of Uttarakhand Roadways, the State transport from Anand Vihar, New Delhi to Dharamghar directly. It leaves from Anand Vihar ISBT at 5 PM (to confirm the timing or any other enquiry contact 011-22141611, this is phone no of Uttarakhand Roadways in Anand Vihar, Delhi) and reaches Dharamghar next day at 4-5 PM making it approximately 24 hrs run. So if you are adventurous enough with lot of patient you can take this bus right from Delhi to reach Dharamghar. The bus can be boarded from Haldwani Bus Station also but it reaches there at around 2-3 AM.

Brief about road network

There are three routes to reach Dharamghar from Kathgodam/Haldwani. The  first one is via “Kausani” which is the longest route among three and runs from Haldwani to Almora to Kausani to Bageshwar to Kotmanya and then Dharamghar.

The second route is via “Takula” little shorter than Kausani route and runs from Haldwani to Almora to Takula to Bageshwar to Kotmanya and then Dharamghar.

The third route is via “Sheraghat” and is the most preferred route as it is shortest in distance. It runs from Haldwani to Almora to Sheraghat to Berinag to Chaukori to Kotmanya and then Dharamghar.

So the road till Almora is common in all three routes and diverges after that. The first two routes running via Kausani and Takula diverge from Almora and then again merge at Bageshwar.

You need to remember the place “Kotmanya” as from this place you will be needed to take a detour of 5 km to reach Dharamghar.
